Since 1988, MerlinOne has pioneered the use of digital images in newspaper publishing, recognizing early on the need for database-driven digital asset management systems in a deadline-driven industry.

The company formerly known as Merlin-Net was founded in 1988 and changed its name to MerlinOne in 2000.

Merlin, the DAM, was released in 1991 initially to handle the flow of wire photos at newspapers.

Today it is prominent in non-profits and medical facilities.

Merlin One favored a rich client and only began developing a web client (Merlin X) in 2013.
